Is there anything better than a weekend where your calendar is free and you’ve got two whole days to do whatever you want? These open weekends are rare but beautiful and should definitely be taken advantage of! Practice self-care on a weekend morning and you’ll head into the work week feeling cleansed, refreshed and ready for whatever Monday throws at you. Here are a few of our favourite ways to relax and re-centre ourselves on a lazy Saturday or Sunday.
Put the kettle on. If you’re a coffee person, by all means, indulge in your favourite coffee drink. But there’s something to be said about putting the kettle on, waiting for the water to boil and sipping a cup of hot, delicious tea that makes you feel instantly restful and stress-free. While we’ll always recommend our Comforting Tea, our beloved blend of licorice root and peppermint, you’re definitely free to choose the kind you enjoy most. Fill up your favourite mug and sit quietly for a few minutes; it’s the perfect time to zone out and let your mind roam a bit.
Put your phone away. Yes, scrolling Instagram all morning is fun, but you know what else is great? Not scrolling Instagram all morning! Make a point to put your phone away for 30 minutes or more and read a book or the newspaper — not your newsfeed.
Make a healthy breakfast. Fuel yourself for what’s to come with a healthy, homemade breakfast like a smoothie, a veggie omelette or — you guessed its — avocado toast! It’ll jump start your day in the best way.
Go for a walk. Grab your pet, a to-go mug of coffee or tea and either a partner or your favourite podcast and go for a walk. Go as long and as far as you want; it’s an easy way to get moving in the morning without hitting up a strenuous workout class. (Although that’s fun too!)
Meditate. Find your centre with a meditative moment. You can meditate however you like, whether it’s with an app, a guided Aveda meditation with Mr. Chakra or simply sitting with your thoughts. If you’re a newbie, start with a short practice — even just a minute or two can be effective.
