I dropped out of University to become a hairdresser. I started my apprenticeship in Darlinghurst 17 years ago and would have never imagined that I would have been so fulfilled in my career! I opened Salon Yazbek in 2010 to create a salon that provides beautiful hair, great customer service and a fantastic experience. I am firm believer in the mantra "you never stop learning"

Your pro tip:

When I cut curly hair, the hair really needs to suit my guests face shape and lifestyle. I want the curls to really enhance and bring out my guests best facial features. Curly hair needs to be cut with a strong shape, some interesting texture and styled correctly to bring out the beauty in each and every one of my curly hair guests!

When it comes to styling, curly hair needs lots of product! You need to start with a good foundation, the hair needs to be very wet to begin with. Curly hair loves oils, so start with 3 pumps of the Aveda Nutriplenish multi use hair oil™, then a good serving of the Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer™, this is full of moisture and will define the curls. The Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel™ is really the main course, a good helping of this liquid gel will hold and define the curls. When it comes time to drying the curls, use a diffuser and tip your head upside down when drying- this will help to boost the curl definition.  Squeeze a little more Confixor and oil into the hair when dry to give the curls all day frizz control...Oh and flopping curls to a side part is always a winner!

A little about me, I'm a country boy at heart, Scorpio, a father to my pug Chester and I’m one of two Aveda Colour educators in WA. I’m all about hair that’s “fresh out of bed, front cover of vogue”. Low maintenance, sustainable and high impact.

My aesthetic has always been about helping to remove anxiety around any and all aspects of hair by simplifying it again. The market is so saturated with people trying to make their mark with a “new” technique or word for foiling that it can become overwhelming with where to begin for both the creative and the consumer. That’s where I come in, I do my part to help re-educate my guests and followers with free industry knowledge and train the next generation to see how simple achieving hair goals can be.

Your pro tip:

I ask my guest to find (minimum) three photos of hair they love and three photos of hair they hate. Why? We as creatives are mostly visual people, we respond better when we are shown what the end goal is. Getting the guest to do their homework will result in less miscommunication and less anxiety when you’re about to make the first cut hoping it’s not too short or wondering if half way through developing it’s going to be the right shade of blonde or brown and avoid a possible redo later on.
