Our October Mane Muse reveals her favourite hair thickening products

Our Mane Muse this month is Iantha Yu, founder of the boutique creative agency PicStudio and former Acting Beauty Director of marie claire Australia and Beauty Editor of BEAUTYcrew.

With over ten years of experience in the media and publishing industry, Iantha has worked on numerous iconic editorial brands, from Women’s Health to Adore Beauty and more. Safe to say, she knows a thing or two about beauty.

If you’re wondering how to get thicker hair and maintain the volume of your dreams, Iantha’s hair care routine is for you. Discover all her go-to hair thickening products!

What is your first beauty memory?
Going to the shops with my parents to buy my first Lipsmacker. Needless to say I was ecstatic! I’ll never forget the flavour I chose as well… for some strange reason, I opted for choc-mint flavour, rather than something more conventional like strawberry or watermelon. I still loved it though!

How do you maintain your hair?
I wash my hair two to three times a week with the botanical repair™ strengthening shampoo or blonde revival™ purple toning shampoo, depending on what my hair needs. My hair tends to be on the drier side (thanks to all the colouring I do!) so I follow with a hair mask such as the botanical repair™ intensive strengthening masque or the invati advanced™ intensive hair and scalp masque.

Once I’m out of the shower, I go with the invati advanced™ thickening foam if I’m doing a big blowout or the botanical repair™ strengthening leave-in treatment for damaged hair, to give it some extra TLC.

What is one hair product you can’t live without?
Besides my hairbrush, probably the invati advanced™ thickening foam. It gives outstanding hair thickness and volume and it is the perfect prep step before blow-drying.

What is your shower routine?
Call it OCD, but I follow a strict order in my shower routine to make sure all the products get enough time to work their magic. First, I wash my hair with shampoo for volume and thickness, then I pop in a hair masque and clip it away from my shoulders so it doesn’t get diluted with water. Then, it’s onto my body care (this is where I use a body wash and occasionally exfoliate and shave my legs), followed by face washing with a cleanser. I like to spend a minute or two here massaging my face to eliminate puffiness (and also because it feels really good!), and then as the very last step, rinse out the hair masque.

What is your beauty philosophy?
Feeling your best and being confident with who you are is a 360 approach; it’s so much more than having nice hair and good skin. Personally, I try to check in with myself regularly. Do I feel ok mentally? Am I eating well, sleeping enough, and not burning out with work? Do I feel nourished with the people I’m surrounded with?

How do you take time out to relax?
I’m obsessed with Larry David at the moment, so to relax, I’m very happy parking myself in front of the TV and watching back to back episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

What’s one hair hack you live by?
For truly lived in curls, I like to curl my hair with a straightener or tong the night before without brushing it out after (yep, so leave your hair in ringlets before you hit the hay.) When you wake up, all you have to do is brush out your curls, and you’ll have a gorgeous-looking blowout that doesn’t look too “done”.

Who is your Muse and why?
I’ve always loved Rosie Huntington-Whitely for her elegance and style. Oh, and most importantly, her perfectly glossy hair!
