At Aveda, a brand founded on the art and science of pure flower and plant essences, we recognize the important role that science plays in creating the high performance products our salon owners, artists and guests love. We make decisions based on science and use it to help us live our mission “to care for the world we live in”.
On Earth Day, April 22, we will walk out of the lab and into the streets to join the March For Science and unite for the love of our planet, nature, and the science that helps us understand and protect it.
Valorie Aquino, co-chair for the March and current Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the University of New Mexico, emphasizes that one of the important reasons for this March is to dismantle perceived and real barriers between science communities and the public. "Sometimes science is seen as occupying a separate space from communities, and a stereotypical scientist is depicted in a lab cloistered from the rest of society. We want to show how science plays a fundamental everyday role in our democracies, our economies, our health and safety, our security, and in all our homes and communities. Scientists can be neighbors, friends, and family," Valorie says.
