What is textured hair?
Textured hair includes all hair types with shaped strands. Wavy, curly, and coily are the three subtypes, with the only non-textured hair being type 1, which features strands with no shape.
People with textured hair should use products that are formulated using ingredients that nourish their particular hair type. Make sure your products for natural hair are also free from silicone, sulphate cleansers, parabens, mineral oil, and petrolatum, which can weigh hair down and cause dullness. If your hair is damaged from heat styling or colour treatment, take a look at Aveda's blog post on repairing natural hair damage.
What is my natural hair type?
You can easily find the answer by visiting our nutriplenish™ page, where you’ll find a hair texture chart to recommend the best product for your specific hair type. Whether your locks are in tight coils or poker straight, feeding your hair with products that keep it hydrated and healthy is a must.
Keep in mind that in addition to the four main categories, there are other features that make your hair unique. Hair structure refers to the thickness of each hair strand, for example, thin, medium, and thick. Scalp moisture is another important thing to figure out so you can choose the correct products for textured hair.
What are the different hair texture types?
There are four different natural hair types, each with three sub-categories a, b, and c which describe the level of intensity. Let's take a look at them:
• Type 1 hair is straight, and requires hair care products that don't add too much in the way of oils and moisture, like nutriplenish™ shampoo light moisture with its lightweight formula that hydrates hair without adding too much moisture.
• Type 2 hair is wavy, ranging from a tousled beach wave to a soft curl. A treatment for natural hair like nutriplenish™ leave-in conditioner tames hair whilst protecting it against heat damage and the drying effect of UV rays.
• Type 3 hair is curly and can benefit from using nutriplenish™ multi-use hair oil for natural hair, with five high-powered oils to restore hydration and lock moisture in.
• Type 4 hair ranges from ringlets to tightly packed coils. Using a conditioner like nutriplenish™ conditioner deep moisture that's 96% naturally derived and is crammed with fatty acids to hydrate medium-to-thick hair. nutriplenish™ conditioner light moisture has a lighter-weight formula that's better suited to fine type four hair.
